What you, as parents, should say to your child when explaining Zero

Dear Parents

The example in the video above is just one, but it’s a powerful demonstration of how Brain to Maths fundamentally transforms the way children understand Zero—and, unlike the traditional approach, makes it much easier for them to make sense of negative numbers.

Now, let’s take a closer look at what’s happening here and why Brain to Maths is so effective for your child—and as this video shows, it’s something anyone can absolutely do. No special maths knowledge is required, just a bit of common sense!

Maths to Brain: for generations, schools have traditionally broken maths down into “easier explanations” to help children grasp concepts more easily.

However, this approach backfires: simplifying maths inevitably distorts its inherent perfection. As a result, maths in children’s minds gradually disintegrates, leaving them in a constant struggle to make sense of something that simply no longer makes sense!

Take the example in the video: explaining Zero as “having nothing” might seem simple and easy for children to grasp, but it sets them up for confusion later.

When they encounter negative numbers, they simply don’t make sense! One of my six-year-olds even concluded, “Negative numbers are a black hole.” Logical? Yes. Mathematically correct? No—and this confusion arose solely from a distorted view of Zero, caused by unnecessary and damaging simplification.

However, the sentence ‘Zero is where this or that begins—like in the examples in the video,’ may not be as strict as mathematicians would prefer, but it accurately conveys a mathematically sound way for children to understand Zero without distorting the integrity of maths. This understanding of Zero makes grasping negative numbers as easy as a walk in the park—well, or rather, along the street, as demonstrated in the video!

Such sentences like ‘Zero is where this or that begins’ are what I call

🎠 MATHS PUNCHLINES🎈

These concise, clear ideas allow children to grasp complex mathematical concepts in a way that’s both accurate and easy to understand, without distorting the integrity of maths.

They lay the groundwork for building a true understanding of maths from the ground up. This strong foundation makes learning maths significantly easier and more enjoyable, as children can fully grasp each concept at every step of the way.

Brain to Maths: recent research has made a breakthrough by collating the key sentences a child needs to grasp foundational maths and set them on the right track. And the great news is, there aren’t as many of these “punchlines” as you might think! They are simple, grounded in common sense, and easy for children to understand.

This is exactly what I call the Brain to Maths approach—one by one, these “Maths Punchlines” are conveyed to children, helping them understand the perfect, inherent structure of maths.

As a result, learning at school becomes much easier for them, and they no longer struggle with the subject.

And the best part is, this is something you can do! With these straightforward concepts, you’ll help your child build a solid foundation in maths, all while staying true to the integrity of the subject.

Lena MorrishSo, the key to building a strong foundation in maths for your child lies in the hands of very early educators. And as parents, you can make a significant difference here. Your involvement can start right now—whether by joining the forum with the maths-related question or homework your child asks you for help with today, or by mastering the use of the Brain to Maths software.

The Brain to Maths software

The Brain to Maths software is designed to help you confidently support your child with maths every day, even if it’s not your strongest subject:

Relax: It empowers you to assist with maths as naturally and routinely as you would with any other subject, integrating seamlessly into your daily life.

MERGE: You’ll see that it doesn’t contradict school at all. In fact, it enhances school lessons, as the maths you help with will align perfectly with what they’re learning in class. This approach ensures that the concepts are understood clearly and logically, so school maths makes sense to your child—just like pure, undistorted maths should.

Achieve: Since this approach aligns with the true principles of mathematics and avoids the confusion caused by traditional oversimplifications, you’ll always feel confident that you’re supporting your child in the best possible way, helping them achieve results far beyond what you might imagine today!

You will build them a strong maths foundation.

Your child will go on to achieve the desired results in maths at school without relying on luck for their school to hire the maths teacher of your dreams, and with a good chance that you’ll never have to rush to find a maths tutor after disappointing mock exam results.

  • “My son has come on leaps and bounds in his confidence. She took him back to basics and has explained everything so that he understands why you work problems out the way you do not just the method. [Lena] has in this short time made a very big difference to my sons enjoyment of maths as a subject. Thank you Lena.”– Sacha from Stevenage, UK

Lena Morrish Yes. The software takes care of the tricky maths part for your child, making the process of maths learning easier and stress-free for them.

However, as parents, you play a crucial role in conveying 🎠 MATHS PUNCHLINES🎈to your child. With your love, patience, and unique parenting skills, you have everything you need to help them grasp maths ideas, one by one—just like the example in the video above about understanding Zero—tailored to their age, learning style, and goals.

You can make a difference, and you can help your child thrive in maths!

The Brain to Maths software is, in effect, the source of all the “Maths Punchlines” your child needs to comprehend in order to master school maths.

And Dr. M’s community for parents is here to guide you every step of the way, helping you help your child achieve exactly this—rest assured, neither of you will ever be alone in the process.
