It’s not maths to brain. It’s brain to maths! Part I

🧠+💜 Early school maths is incredibly simple – once understood. And this simplicity is precisely what makes it hard for children to understand maths! So how can we help our children navigate this conundrum?
————————–

Understanding maths is often feels like an insurmountable challenge, but the truth is:

🧠 Maths much simpler than commonly believed.
💜 And this is exactly why it’s hard to learn it.

Maths basic ideas are extremely simple because they are primitively straightforward, devoid of emotions and opinions.

Once simplicity of maths is recognised, it becomes fundamentally easier to learn it.

But mathematics reveals its simplicity only when it’s truly understood!

Meanwhile, the natural tendency of human brains to overcomplicate, coupled with human emotions, reduces chances of understanding maths…

🤔 So, how can we break through this catch 22 to help our children understand maths?

TRADITIONAL TEACHING
It relies on explaining maths and providing exercises to help children understand it. This means the imposition of extremely primitive, rigid maths ideas onto a child’s brain, filled with misconceptions and emotions.

TEACHING I ADVOCATE
Instead, maths teaching should leverage the malleable nature of the child’s brain to help it adapt to rigid maths ideas.

Fundamental difference!

IMPORTANT NOTE

Just saying to a child that maths is easy would only make it harder for them to learn it – they have to see maths simplicity by themselves!

Slides demonstrate the correct approach to achieving precisely this.

Sadly, conventional teaching methods often fail to do that.
